Last week, Facebook announced their plans for a new platform for watching shows on the social media network – Watch.
In a play to keep up with the likes of Netflix and up their video offering, Watch will be available on mobile, desktop and laptop, and in our TV apps. Shows are made up of episodes — live or recorded — and follow a theme or storyline with a Watchlist feature so you never miss out on the latest episodes.
It’ll also be personalised, which will relate to what your Facebook friends are watching, as well as including sections like “Most Talked About,” which highlights shows that spark conversation.
Facebook want Watch to appeal to creators and publishers, with the aim of it becoming home to a wide range of shows from reality TV to live sports. And they’re also putting their money where their mouth is by funding some shows too, particularly around community related content.
Watch is being rolled out on limited release in the US firstly, so we’ll be ‘Watch-ing’ this space to see what kind of shows will feature. Find out more about what to expect from Watch here.
