Advertising on mobile devices has charged a growth within the Australian online advertising market, as online now accounts for nearly half of all advertising spend. According to the latest IAB/PwC Online Advertising Expenditure Report “Online ad spend grew by 29.7% to $6.8 billion in the year to 30 June 2016.”
According to the report, display advertising saw the largest increase up 43.3% to $2.5 billion, which was its highest year-on-year growth since the inception of the report 13 years ago. If this significant growth continues, display is set to take over search as the largest area of spend in 2017.
Advertisers have also been increasing their ad spend for video advertising, which grew by 55% to $600 million.
Looking specifically at the industry sector, Real Estate showed to have the largest increase in online ad spend, however the automotive sector continue to spend the largest in online spend accounting for 17% of the total.
