Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, the Webbys are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-member body of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities. Members include “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, Virgin Chairman Richard Branson, cinematic mogul Harvey Weinstein, and David Bowie.
The awards recognise work in over 100 Website, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile categories. This year attracted nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries. To make the process as democratic as possible, two awards are given per category; a Webby Award from the Academy, and a People’s Voice Award voted on by the online community.
One of my favourite entries this year is Nintendo’s Wario Land: Shake It! campaign in the Online Guerilla Marketing category. Voting closes April 30th, so get involved!
