Words can’t begin to describe the horrific events that have unfolded this week in Victoria and are continuing to do so. History shows that when our fellow Aussies are in need of help, we’re there to answer the call and last night was no different. An average of 1.2 million metropolitan viewers tuned into Channel Nine’s Bushfire Relief telethon from 7:30pm – midnight which raised over $20 million for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal – A fantastic effort!
Not surprisingly, Melbourne viewers made up over 40% of the audience, however donations were pouring in from all over the country.
Under the circumstances Channel Nine did a great job. It was good to see that in a show of unity the usual stern network boundaries were lowered, something we are unlikely to see agian for a long time.
Donations can still be made at the red cross website or call: 13 10 60 or 13 33 53. By direct deposit to the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund – BSB 082-001, Account number 860-046-797.
Thanks to all the firefighters & volunteers for your ongoing courage & bravery. Our thoughts are with the victims and survivors.
