Why You Should Consider Video Marketing
Over the past few months, as a young marketer and social media addict, I’ve noticed that my news feed continues to be dominated by videos. Whether it’s videos promoting brands, first world problems, people’s misfortunes (people falling over are my favourite), animals behaving strangely or even a spider coming out of a girls mouth (what the heck!??), there’s no denying that videos have an impact on us everyday. Brands are posting videos through social media and if you’ve watched anything on YouTube you’ll be all too familiar with advertisements (the most annoying are the ones you CAN’T skip!).
According to the Social Media Examiner’s Social Media Marketing Industry Report 2014, nearly 3 in 4 marketers plan on increasing their use of original videos in 2014. It’s no wonder why when there are so many benefits related to video marketing.
Here are 5 reasons why you should consider video marketing:
1. People watch A LOT of video:
YouTube alone has more than 4 billion views per day! More than 500 years’ worth of YouTube videos are watched daily on Facebook and over 700 YouTube videos are shared every minute on Twitter. I think it’s fair to say that videos play a big part in social media and our daily lives. If you’re marketing using videos, you can see how many people you could possibly reach.
2. Deeper connections with audience:
Video offers the opportunity to use sight and sound to connect emotionally with viewers via storytelling. This can be a very powerful tool if used correctly and is a major advantage over other marketing techniques. Video also has the ability to entertain, inspire and even educate which could be used to promote a certain product or service. More than 60 percent of consumers will spend at least two minutes watching a video that educates them about a product they plan to purchase (MarketingCharts.com).
3. Video is easily searchable:
When consumers are searching for your products or services, chances are they’ll use Google or another search engine. If your site contains a video, there’s a much higher chance you’ll show higher up in the search. In fact, Forrester Research found that the presence of a video on your webpage makes it 53x more likely to appear on the first page of a Google search. Videos on social media can also affect organic Google search results as well as be an entry point to your website.
4. Video is mobile:
Video is no longer confined to your desktop computer or laptop. Australians claim to spend 1 hour and 56 minutes per month watching any online video on a mobile phone and since 69 percent of Australians aged over 16 own a smart phone (Nielsen.com), it makes sense for businesses to invest in video marketing.
5. Video can push sales:
Videos can also be a way of showing off a product or service. You could create a video review of a new product or even show consumers using your product in the real world. Over 80 percent of people say they are more likely to buy a product after watching a video about it (WireBuzz.com). As someone who does a lot of research before buying anything I can honestly say video product reviews have helped me a great deal when thinking about my next purchase.
So the question I pose to you is: do you believe videos are the future of online marketing? Will Facebook become Facevideo, Twitter become Twideo, Instagram become…. ok you get the picture.
