Instagram follows suit as it introduces ads
Everyone’s favourite photo filtering social network is next to feature advertising.
It was inevitable really, in fact it was the first thing many predicted would happen once it became part of the Zuckerberg family; you will soon be seeing ads in your Instagram feed. The popular social network announced this week that it will be rolling out advertising to users feeds in the not so distant future.
It makes sense really; the company has to generate revenue somehow, or as the company said itself in a blog post about introducing ads ‘building Instagram into a sustainable business’.
With over 150 million global users it was only a matter of time before Instagram followed its social media peers and introduced advertising. It promises to ease you in gently however – ‘Seeing photos and videos from brands you don’t follow will be new, so we’ll start slow. We’ll focus on delivering a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.’
The company are also offering users full control over what ads you do see as you will be able to ‘hide’ an ad, similar to Facebook Page Post Ads, along with a chance to offer feedback about why you didn’t want to see it. I wonder will there simply be an ‘I don’t want to see any ads’ option? It’s being rolled out in the USA firstly, so the rest of the world can continue to enjoy ad-free photos… for now.
Will the introduction of Instagram ads turn you off of using it?
