This is something that really annoys me. We have all the technology, all the money, all the goodwill but somehow we can’t get over our plastic bags addiction.
Here are a few stats to get you going: “Australians use 3.92 billion plastic bags a year, that’s over 10 million new bags being used every day. An estimated 3.76 billion bags or 20,700 tonnes of plastic are disposed of in landfill sites throughout Australia every year. Australians dump 7,150 recyclable plastic bags into landfills every minute or 429,000 bags every hour.” Now, I was thinking what can be done to just get rid of these silly supermarket bags once and for all. Here’s what I came up with:
So what? Sure it’s expensive to replace the plastic bags. But it’s so much more expensive to try and get rid of them! What do you think? Anyone knows a supermarket manager that will be willing to try this for 2 hours?? Thanks to Michelle from Greenbag for the stats.
